Completed work – MG Jesta Scorpius

Results are out ! Unfortunatly I didn’t place this time. Looking at the winners, it seems that the paint job was really important in the judging criterias, namely shading and weathering. I know what to learn next !

The plan was to have a ghetto-lightbox ready in time for the competition submissions, but I had to settle for some less-than-adequate natural light two days before the deadline. I swear, one day when I have nothing better to do I’ll build a proper photo studio and snap better pics. In the meantime, enjoy !

WIP – MG Jesta – 01

This WIP is kinda special. I’m writing it on January 30th but I won’t post it before May. I’m making this custom especially for the “Playing with Plamo 2017” competition, and the rules explicitely say :

“Anyone who enters this competition with a model kit or kits that have appeared on the internet, which includes but is not limited to blog posts, work in progress, forum builds, competitions, review builds, social networks,, online video sites or promotions, will be ineligible to enter.”

So I’m writing it as I go, documenting my failures progress to post it later.

As you may have guessed from the title, I’m going for my favorite grunt unit : the RGM96X Jesta. I buit an HG Jesta Cannon when I started the hobby and it remained one of my favorites for a long time.

WIP – MG Jesta – 00

I’m currently working on a custom MG Jesta for the “Playing with Plamo 2017” competition. The rules state that I’m not allowed to post pictures of my WIP until the end of the competition. If you register to and join the “Intermediate” group, you’ll see day-to-day updates of that build.

If not, I’m currently writing a detailed WIP and will post it in May, when the winner has been announced. I don’t think I’ll have time to continue working on the Gerbera Tetra until then, and my last mess up with the Astray Red Frame paint isn’t really motivating me to continue working on it…

WIP – MG Astray Red Frame – 03

Small update again today. I was planning on being done with this build last week-end, since I finally got some time to paint the damn thing, but things didn’t quite go as planned…

I’ve never really needed to pay attention to the weather while painting, I live in a pretty temperate region without any extremes in temperature or humidity. This time though, it was a bit too cold for the paint it seems :

WIP – MG 00Qan[T] – 02

Most of the mods (plaplates and scribing) have been done in part 1 so now it’s off to full painting. When available, I like to try out color scheme on linearts I’ve found online. They’re a bit hard to find, to be honest (well, clean ones), but I just happened to have the 00 Qan[T]’s one :

The best way to check out the color scheme

Most of the color separation is done by painting different parts, without too much masking required. I’ll need to improve my scribing and masking skills in the future if I want to step up my game.
